Code Of Conduct - Parent

I hereby pledge to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating in youth sports by following this Parents’ Code of Conduct.

By agreeing to this document, you will;

…not force my child to participate in ice hockey, they are here because they want to be.

…remember that my child plays ice hockey for their own fun, not for mine.

…inform the coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

…learn the rules of ice hockey and the policies of DIHA.

…be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and demonstrating positive support for all involved at every practice, game or other sporting event.

…not engaging in any other unsportsmanlike behaviour that is unbecoming of me or DIHA. You accept that gestures such as booing or taunting, refusing to shake hands, profanities will not be tolerated.

…not tolerate or encourage behaviours that could endanger the health and wellbeing of players and officials.

…teach and encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

…demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials and spectators with respect regardless of race, sex, or ability.

…teach my child that doing their best is far more important that winning, so that the outcome does not dictate how they feel about the game or their own or team’s performance.

…praise my child for fairplay and trying hard.

…never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition.

…emphasise how skill development and practices will benefit my child far greater than winning.

…promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of the players over any desire you may have for your child winning.

…respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at a game, but will take the time to speak with coaches at an agreed time and place.

…will respect the box and that this is a place for the players and officials.

…respect and show appreciation for the coaches who give their time to coach ice hockey for my child.

…only engage in constructive relationships with the coaches and realise that my child is not the only child in the team.

…demand a sports environment that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all sporting events.

…refrain from coaching my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team
